Aviation Unit

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit is staffed by a deputy, who is also a pilot and is dedicated to providing ground based patrol resources with quality airborne assets designed to enhance criminal apprehension and provide for officer safety. He operates a Cessna 182 Skylane airplane. The airplane is used primarily for prisoner and personnel transport, but it can also be used for aerial surveillance and searches. It is equipped with long range tanks for over five hours of non-stop flight. The aircraft is equipped with law enforcement and aviation radios. The Sheriff's Office aircraft is available for call out 24 hours a day and can be airborne in minutes. In addition to supporting the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, the Aviation Unit also supports local police departments, State and Federal Agencies operating within the county, and neighboring agencies as needed.
