Animal Enforcement Unit

Sheriff Rick Clark’s Animal Enforcement Unit is a specialized unit created in 2017 pursuant to an agreement between the Sheriff and Pickens County Council. The unit focuses on enforcing laws related to animal welfare, animal control, and protecting both domestic and wild animals.

The following are some everyday duties and responsibilities associated with an Animal Enforcement Unit:

  • Animal Cruelty Investigations: Investigating cases of animal abuse, neglect, or cruelty reported by concerned citizens or discovered during routine patrols.
  • Animal Control: Responding to and handling animal-related complaints, such as loose or dangerous animals, aggressive animals, or wildlife encroachment.
  • Rescue and Rehabilitation: Assisting in rescuing, capturing, and transporting injured or distressed animals and coordinating their care with appropriate facilities or organizations.
  • Code Enforcement: Enforcing local ordinances and regulations pertaining to pet ownership, such as licensing, leash laws, and zoning restrictions.
