“Pickens County Detention Officer Wins Bert Friday Award”

James Capps began his career at the Pickens County Detention Center in February of 2015. James is an excellent employee who has voluntarily taken on extra assignments such as overseeing the Trusty Program and assisting with the Weekender Program. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate James Capps on winning the Bert Friday Award from the SC Criminal Justice Academy. We are very proud of him! 

We would also like to congratulate Detention Officers Carrie Nowaczck and James Hardy on their graduation from the SC Criminal Justice Academy.  

 

SC Criminal Justice Academy Basic Detention BERT FRIDAY AWARD

 

This award is named after G.S. Bert Friday who left a legacy of a long and illustrious law enforcement and corrections career as a patrolman with the City of Columbia and rose to the rank of Captain in 1954. 

In 1962, G.S. Bert Friday joined the SC Department of Corrections as Deputy Warden. The Jail and Prison Inspection Division of the Department of Corrections was established in 1967 with Friday organizing and implementing the statewide inspection program. He helped lay the foundation for a successful cooperative effort among state agencies and departments that still exists today.  

This award is given to the student who obtains the highest overall academic average, including successful completion of all performance tests.
